Many Hats, One Internship

Insights from Intern Stacy Serna

In the fall and winter of 2025, Stacy Serna—performer, soon-to-be-SCAD grad, and can-do young professional—supported the Dad’s Garage staff as an intern. The following is what she had to say about her experience.

I couldn’t have asked for a better internship than the one I had at Dad’s Garage. I’ve met some of the best people in the industry here and have received invaluable guidance. Observing how everyone navigates this ever-changing environment has given me a glimpse into what my own future could look like. I feel not only prepared, but thrilled for whatever the next chapter in my career is.

During my time here at Dad’s, I got to wear a lot of different hats! From putting up flyers in local shops and creating content for social media to helping coordinate Swift Rice’s performance as Apollo Creed for the opening weekend of Invasion: Christmas Carol 2025! I got to be so involved in the many parts that make this incredible theatre run, which is something I’ve always been encouraged to do by my professors (and what better place to do it than at the lively and forever-growing Dad’s Garage!)

Everyone I’ve met here has been a mentor to me in some capacity, and I cannot thank everyone enough. Some of the coolest, most genuine people who have all been so welcoming and extremely generous with their time. I instantly felt like I was a part of the team and have become such a fan of everyone here. I learned something new every single day, whether it was about marketing and social media, or being a working actor in the industry. I also want to thank Lily, the Dad’s Garage marketing manager, so much for letting this be a safe space for learning, for always being a great supporter of mine, and for putting me in the spaces to make lifelong connections.

Having the privilege to walk into the theatre every week and see behind the scenes is something I will cherish for the rest of my career. Although my time at Dad’s is ending, I will be back…just in the crowd for now!
