Improving Care Through Improv

and move through each moment with compassion and creativity.

Improving Care Through Improv: Professional Care Partners

Whether you are a professional care partner or a friend/family member, improvisation can help when caring for persons living with dementia. Instead of working against them, improv helps you join the person and move through each moment with compassion and creativity. Dad’s Garage has partnered with Georgia Gear to bring 2 options for care partners to learn more about how improvisation can help use the power of “yes, and…” to have more successful interactions with people living with dementia.

Option 1: Large Group Presentation

Improvisers from Dad’s Garage, along with Dr. Candace Kemp from Georgia State University, present the concepts behind improving care through improv. Part show, part presentation - research is presented in a fun and engaging way using improv scenes to illustrate key points.

Option 2: Small Group Workshop: Professional Care Partners

This workshop can accommodate up to 20 people and provides a more hands on approach to learning how to use improv to work with people living with dementia. Workshop participants leave with a new set of tools to bring to their profession. If you have a larger group, we can provide more educators.

While we are only working with professional care partners at the moment, we are working towards expanding this program to family and friends care partners as well.
